Dear Internet: I AM FOUR DAYS AWAY FROM HAVING A BABY.

Last week I had my last ultrasound, and everything looked great!! The big worry with gestational diabetes is that the baby could be too big, which could lead to complications like a dislocated shoulder or an emergency C-section, but his weight was absolutely perfect. She also checked his organs, his position, placement of the umbilical cord, etc, and everything seems to be exactly the way it should be, which I am so so happy about. Also lolol she got his femur on the screen and measured it and said, "Hmm, are you both a little on the short side?" so I guess Lentl is going to be a shortie like me. :D

I'm taking a two-week break from school (more if I need to, but at least two weeks), so Wednesday was my last day lugging a whole almost-baby around my massive campus.

Tomorrow is my last NST (a thing where I go to the clinic and they monitor Lentl's heartbeart for twenty minutes to make sure he's doing okay, which he always is).

And this morning was my last doctor's appointment. I've been having mild contractions on and off, which is normal, so the doctor checked to see if I'm dilated -- which, by the way, is EXTREMELY FUCKING PAINFUL -- and it turns out I'm already at 2 cm. That doesn't mean I'm about to go into labor or anything, it just means my body is starting to get ready, but it also means that when I go in on Monday to be induced, it'll probably go pretty smoothly since the whole process is already partially underway. I am very very relieved to hear this because inductions can take as long as two days and I'm not super excited about that possibility, so the shorter the better!! Also good news: last doctor's appointment means I'm officially done logging my blood sugar. THANK SPARKLE. I still have to stick to my diet and keep taking my nightly insulin until the baby is actually born, of course, but I'm done checking my blood ten million times a day and writing everything down. THANK. SPARKLE. Also, hilariously, I weigh the exact amount I weighed nine months ago when I went to take my pregnancy test.

The last thing the doctor told me was that my delivery room is going to be my room so I should feel free to bring whatever I want to make it comfortable........ so I thought about it and then went on Amazon and bought a replica of Sailor Moon's Silver Crystal dlfhlkdjfdf. Look, your friend kinoface is a real winner okay guys.

We still have a lot to do and not very much time to do it, but emotionally I feel ready. People keep saying things like "I bet you can't wait to not be pregnant anymore" and that's not exactly right; other than the gestational diabetes this pregnancy has actually been pretty easy, and there's really nothing quite as amazing as feeling him move around and hiccup and literally be connected to me, so it's not that I'm super eager to be done with this. I just can't wait to meet this little person and see what he looks like and watch him grow up and develop his own personality and be my little buddy (and also Odin's little buddy, and if it turns out he's allergic to dogs I will throw myself into a volcano, it's the only logical response).

Also sandwiches.

I can't wait to be able to eat sandwiches again.

Four more days!!!!!

“News of the OTW bubbled up from many directions at once, most likely through my associations with Escapade, but also through an academic colleague whose partner at the time was involved. I was so excited to hear about the emergence of this fan advocacy network which brought together fannish lawyers willing to help protect our fair use rights as fans; fan scholars publishing their work through a peer-reviewed journal; fan programmers using their skills in support of the community; and of course, an archive where fans controlled what happened to their own works without the interference of web 2.0 interests.

Each of these things is important on its own terms, but taken together, this organization has been a transformative force, in all senses of the words, for fans and their rights to participate.”

For our anniversary Henry Jenkins talks fan studies, students, fandom changes over the years & why it's worth fighting for: http://goo.gl/fm19m5

Heeeere we go, the big daddy.
Following my lil' fic musings post awhile back, I've decided to post it As Is, bar a punctuation revamp and some very minor corrections, aka, removing three out of four 'Cobalt blue's. So a level 2. As per anushca1's and others' suggestion, I'll post it warts and all, and then maybe, in the far future when I run out of projects and I have lots of spare time (shortly after the sproutlet leaves for university, then) I might take it out again and produce The Arrangement 2.0. In that case, though, I'd leave both versions available. Not sure I'd ever go there, I do have other projects I'd like to tackle eventually, but the possibility being out there makes me much happier posting it as is, flaws and all.

The Arrangement (Gundam Wing, HeeroxWufei, NC17 please read warnings etc)
Wufei, struggling with his demons, agrees to a wartime fling with Heero, no affection needed or wanted. But the 'arrangement' lasts and grows as they join the Preventers. It could become a source of strength for both. If they let it.

Big thanks again to Cyphomandra for sending me the handy word doc with everything already in editable format AND all the quotation mark punctuation issues addressed. Saved me SO MUCH TIME and irritation! <3

There's still some fixin' to be done, and man, this is how I measure how much I've changed and improved as a fic writer ^^; But I also see themes and character traits that still appear in my stories to this day pop up. Hah, it's a fun trip down memory lane.

OTW 10th anniversary history

We've been around a while now, so as part of celebrating our 10th anniversary here are 25 things to know about the OTW! https://goo.gl/FuuMWS

(- and so, your honor, this does show that my client was non compos mentis at the time of the post - )

Now up on AO3, the first chapter of the rewritten Source of All Things. I'll probably be posting a chapter a week, on weekends unless Real Life whacks me over the head with a pool cue.

The Source of All Things (Gundam Wing, established 3x4, eventual 2x5, even more eventual 1x2x5 kinda)
Chapter 1: The Naked Man on the Rock
Center, a planet where magic and technology blend. Or more accurately, fight tooth and nail. A planet of Sources, holes in our boring dimension letting through arcane power, chaos and pseudo-deities. In this hot-house of myths and very real dangers, Trowa and Quatre find a mysterious man at the end of a shamanic voyage. Portents suggest this Heero Yuy is crucial to Center’s survival. He’s important enough to have some interesting enemies after him, at any rate: a devious killer and thief called ‘Shinigami’, and a very irate Dragon. Beyond them looms an even greater threat. Indeed, the greatest of them all.

(Alternative Universe, far-flung future sci-fi/fantasy. There are elements from the anime that exist here, albeit in very different forms; Gundam mechas, Zero, and lovely G-boys for instance. They are perhaps a universal constant we are not yet aware of.
This fic was original started over a decade ago. It has been heavily rewritten and should now be eventually finished)

I've gotten this 95% written, I'd say. All chapters hammered out, half written for the final half dozen, many still need reworking but are mostly ready to go.

I initially stalled on this because I'd run out of ideas for filling out the last dozen chapters, to let ideas and relationships breathe, mature, to let the story develop naturally.

As a mature and experienced fanfic writer, I picked this up again now and addressed the problem by saying 'fuck that'. This story is going to be somewhat uneven as a result. Some chapters in the first half are going to feel slower and redundant, and then it's likely to end with a squeal of brakes and the stench of burnt tires. But at least this time it will end :D I want people to see what I have planned for Heero, because as my lawyer will remind the judge eventually, I am pretty deranged.

Still busy archivin' away.

Spring Fever (Naturo, KakaIru)
Spring is an insidious season that a good Shinobi should avoid at all cost. If he can't do that, he can at least avoid falling for someone way too nice and out of his class altogether.

Ring Around (One Piece, Gen)
Nami's nakama were certifiable. Loony-bin material, every last one of them.

Monsters (Gundam Wing, AU,1x2,3x4)
AU gently parodying the supernatural fic genre, and that's all I can really say about it.

OTW 10th Anniversary Chat

What were some of your early experiences like when your work gained its own fans?

*MarthaWells
I think my favorite experience is seeing the fan art, and seeing fanfic from my books show up in Yuletide. That’s hugely exciting to see fanfic and fan art of your work, especially to someone who was a fan from way back in the print zine era.

*SeananMcGuire
The first time something I’d created showed up as a fandom option for Yuletide, I literally cried. Happy tears! But it was like, HOLY WHAT NO HOW OMG VIXY LOOK AT THIS DO YOU SEE THIS. It’s amazing. It’s still amazing. I can’t read any of the fanfic of my own work, but knowing it exists makes me so happy.

OTW 10th Anniversary Chat

What things have you been excited to see in recent years, either regarding fandom or work in your genre(s)?

*Catherine R.
I really like fanfiction and its explosion on the internet. I think fanfic is a great way for people to learn the craft skills of writing. Many of my college students fall in love with writing that way: by reading fanfic and then starting to write it themselves. I always encourage them to go for it! I love the supportive structure it creates for imagination and fantasy to run wild. I think that realm is so important. Imagination lets us explore quandaries of desire and justice and truth and conflict: all the central problems of what it means to be human.

*Christina L.
It’s been incredibly exciting to see so many writers from our fandom specifically or fandom in general out there publishing books. Of course we all know the big ones—EL James, Cassie Clare—but there are others from the Twi world that had fantastic voices and ideas and who are now also bestsellers. Sally Thorne, Alice Clayton, Nina Bocci, Leisa Rayven, Mariana Zapata, Amanda Weaver—all of these women wrote fantastic fic.

New post on AO3

Taste Challenge (Sanji + Zoro)

Sanji didn't wonder why he gave himself the challenge. It didn't matter why. ‘Why’ was probably covered by one-upping the bloody swordsman, and maybe there were other reasons - stranger reasons - but that was the only one that really counted, right? It was decided. He was going to get Zoro to appreciate - no, love Sanji's food. If Sanji couldn't do it, then he wasn't a true sea-cook after all.
